iServi News | 26 November 2024 | Term 4, Week 7
Last week a group of Year 10 Pathways to Work students participated in the Try A Trade Program where they were exposed to fun, hands-on and practical activities designed to excite their minds and help them consider a career in construction.
One of our students, Sofia P (SA3) gave us an insight into the week:
“During Term 4, a select group of Year 10 Pathways to Work students participated in the Try A Trade Program.
As part of the week we completed our White Card (a qualification to work safely on construction sites around Australia) and embarked on a new journey at Skill Hire.
With the help of our Trainer, Blair, we learned a variety of different skills in carpentry and brick laying. We were tasked to build a pergola and brick walls using our newly acquired skills. It was great to see our work come to completion at the end of the week.
The experience has opened our eyes and given us a taste of the construction industry. The week was a fun, exciting and rewarding experience.”
